To rank on Google Maps in Dubai, set up and verify a Google Business Profile at a real, staffed address with signage, pick the most specific primary category, use your real business name, and fill in every field, including services, hours, photos and posts. Then earn steady reviews and keep your name, address and phone identical everywhere online.

We set up Google Business Profiles as part of our SEO and AI search setup, which starts from 3,000 AED. This guide covers what Google's own help pages say, what we see go wrong on UAE profiles, and the order we'd do things in. Policies are described as of October 2026.

How do you set up and verify a Google Business Profile in the UAE?

Go to business.google.com/add, add your business, enter the details and choose a verification option. Google's setup page lists those four steps, and asks you to confirm the address meets its address guidelines before you start.

First, search Google Maps for your business. Many Dubai businesses already have a profile that someone else created. If one exists, claim it or request ownership. A duplicate would split your reviews.

Verification is where most owners get stuck. Google's verification page lists video recording, phone or text, email, postcard and live video call. You can't choose freely. Google says it picks the available methods for you automatically, and review can take up to five business days. When video is offered, Google recommends it.

For a video, Google's video verification guide asks for a live, unedited recording of at least 30 seconds, with no breaks. A storefront business should show:

  • Where it is, using "street signs, building numbers, nearby businesses, or familiar places around your business"
  • That it exists, with permanent signage carrying the same name as the profile
  • That you manage it, by showing an area only staff can reach, such as the cash register or point-of-sale system

In a Dubai tower, film the building name, walk to your door, show the sign, then the back office or till. Plan the route before you start, because you can't stop and restart.

Which category should you choose on Google Business Profile?

Choose the most specific primary category that describes your main business. Google's category guide gives the example of "Nail salon" rather than "Salon", and says you can't create your own category.

The primary category is the strongest relevance signal you control. A dental clinic that picks "Medical clinic" competes with every polyclinic in the city. One that picks "Dentist" competes for the searches it wants.

Additional categories are for real departments or services. Google's guidelines say to "use as few categories as possible to describe your overall core business."

Then add services. Google's services editor suggests options based on your business type, lets you add custom ones with a description and price, and rejects custom names that contain prices or phone numbers. Not every category gets this feature. Where you have it, use the names customers search for, such as "teeth whitening", "Invisalign" or "corporate tax registration", rather than internal package names.

Each type of business uses the profile a little differently. Our guides for dental clinics, restaurants and real estate agencies cover the details for each.

Can you use a virtual office or co-working address on Google Maps?

No, unless the office is real. Google's guidelines say a location you rent only as a mailing address, "also known as a virtual office", "isn't eligible for a Business Profile." P.O. boxes are out too.

This matters in the UAE, where many companies hold a free zone license with a flexi-desk address. That address works for the license, but not for Google Maps.

The rules for addresses, in Google's words or close to them:

  • Businesses that show their address should keep "permanent fixed signage" of their business name there
  • A co-working office only counts if it has clear signage, receives customers during business hours, and is staffed
  • If you serve customers at their location, such as a cleaning company, a mobile car wash or a home-visit physio, you're a service-area business and "should hide your business address from customers"

Service-area businesses set where they work instead. Google's service area guide allows up to 20 service areas, by city or area, not a radius, and keeps the boundary within about two hours' drive of your base. In Dubai, list the areas you cover, such as Dubai Marina, JLT, Business Bay and Jumeirah, rather than "all UAE".

How does Google rank businesses on Google Maps in Dubai?

In Google's words, "Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity" (Google Business Profile Help). The same page is blunt about shortcuts: "There's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google."

What each factor means in practice:

FactorWhat Google meansWhat you control
RelevanceHow well a profile matches the searchPrimary category, services, description, attributes
DistanceHow far the business is from the searcherNothing, apart from being honest about your location
Popularity (prominence)How well known the business isReviews, replies, mentions on other sites, your own website

Distance explains a lot of frustration. A restaurant in Al Barsha rarely shows for someone searching from Dubai Marina, however good its profile. That's why a multi-branch business needs one profile per real location.

On popularity, Google says "more reviews and positive ratings can help your business's local ranking" and that businesses with complete and accurate info "are more likely to show up in local search results." Reviews are the factor you can grow every week. We wrote a separate guide on how to get more Google reviews in Dubai, covering the link, the timing and Google's rules on incentives, so we won't repeat it here. In short, ask every customer, and reply to the reviews you get.

What should you fill in after your profile is verified?

Everything Google offers for your category. Photos, hours, attributes and posts all count toward the "complete and accurate info" Google rewards, and they're what a customer looks at before calling.

Photos. Google's photo tips recommend at least three exterior photos, three interior photos and three of your products or food, plus team photos, as JPG or PNG between 10 KB and 5 MB. Photos only show once the profile is verified. Exterior shots help a customer find the right entrance of the right tower in Business Bay.

Hours. Google asks for "regular customer-facing hours of operation." Set special hours for public holidays and Ramadan, when many businesses change their schedule. Wrong hours are one of the fastest ways to earn a one-star review.

Attributes. Google's attributes page says these appear on Search and Maps and may help you show up for searches that use them. Mark every one that is true, from wheelchair access and Wi-Fi to payment options.

Posts. Google's posts guide lists three post types, which are updates, offers and events. A weekly post shows customers the business is active. Don't stuff it with keywords.

Here's the checklist we work through on every new profile:

Why do Google Business Profiles get suspended?

Most suspensions come from a name with extra words, an ineligible address, or details that don't match reality. Google's guidelines say "including unnecessary information in your business name isn't permitted, and could result in the suspension of your Business Profile."

The classic Dubai example is "XYZ Dental Clinic | Best Dentist in Dubai Marina | Invisalign". The real name is "XYZ Dental Clinic". The rest is keyword stuffing, and it puts the whole profile, reviews included, at risk.

The other common causes:

  • A virtual office or flexi-desk address shown as a storefront
  • A second profile for the same location, created to "cover" another area
  • A name, phone or address that doesn't match the sign, the license or the website

Watch out

If a profile is suspended, fix the cause before you appeal. Appealing with the keyword-stuffed name still in place usually wastes the attempt.

Why does NAP consistency matter for local SEO in Dubai?

NAP means name, address and phone. When they're the same on your Google profile, your website, your social pages and the directories that list you, Google and AI engines can be confident they're all the same business. When they differ, that confidence drops.

Dubai addresses make this harder. The same office gets written as "Office 1204, Bay Square 5" and "Bay Square Building 5, Business Bay". Pick one format and use it everywhere, including your site's footer and contact page, your schema, Instagram, LinkedIn, directories and portals. Do the same with one main phone number, even if you also use WhatsApp and call tracking elsewhere.

On your website, add LocalBusiness schema, or a more specific type like Dentist or Restaurant, with the same name, address, phone and hours as the profile. Our guide to structured data for AI search shows how.

Does your Google Business Profile affect AI answers?

Yes, though nobody outside Google can say how much. Google says there are "no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode" beyond normal Search eligibility (Google Search Central), so the work that helps your local listing is the same work that helps you there.

Google is also opening Maps data to Gemini. Its October 2025 announcement of grounding with Google Maps says Gemini-powered apps can now answer questions about places using data from more than 250 million places, including "user reviews" and "up-to-date business and holiday hours." Your hours, ratings and review text are exactly that data.

ChatGPT reads the open web through its own crawler, and OpenAI says "sites that are opted out of OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers" (OpenAI). So your website, directory listings and reviews need to tell the same story as your profile. Our guide to Google AI Overviews in the UAE covers Google's side, and how to check if ChatGPT recommends your business shows how to test the rest.

The takeaway

Google Maps in Dubai rewards the basics done properly. That means a real address with a sign, a specific category, your real name, every field filled in, and reviews that keep coming. Most businesses skip some of it, which is why a careful profile can beat bigger competitors on the same street.

Questions people ask

How long does it take to verify a Google Business Profile in the UAE?

Google says verification review can take up to five business days once you submit. The methods offered, such as video, phone, email or a live call, are chosen automatically for your business, so plan for a few days and keep the profile details unchanged while it is under review

Can I have a Google Business Profile without an office in Dubai?

Only as a service-area business that serves customers at their location, with the address hidden. A virtual office or flexi-desk you don't operate from isn't eligible as a shown address under Google's guidelines, even if it is the address on your trade license

Should every branch in Dubai have its own Google Business Profile?

Yes, if each branch is a real, staffed location with its own signage. Google ranks partly on distance from the searcher, so one profile per branch lets each location show for people nearby. Keep names and categories consistent across branches

Can I pay Google to rank higher on Google Maps?

No. Google states there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Your position depends on relevance, distance and popularity: a specific category, a complete profile and steady reviews are what you can work on

Does adding keywords to my business name help on Google Maps?

It might look like it helps for a while, but Google's guidelines say unnecessary information in the name isn't permitted and can get the profile suspended. Use the real name from your sign and license, and describe what you do in your categories and services instead

Do I need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?

You can rank on Maps without one, but a website with the same name, address, phone and hours strengthens the profile, gives Google and AI engines more to read, and is where schema markup lives. Most local businesses benefit from at least a simple, crawlable site
