How to appear in Google AI Overviews in the UAE

Google needs no special markup for AI Overviews. What it requires, what helps in the UAE and Arabic, and a checklist with how to verify each signal.

To appear in Google AI Overviews in the UAE, a page needs no special markup. Google only requires that it be indexed and eligible to show in Search with a snippet. What you control is the content: a direct answer near the top, coverage of related sub-questions, accurate structured data, and a current Google Business Profile for local queries

AI Overviews work in Arabic and reach UAE users, and AI Mode is available in English and Arabic. Below is what Google has published about both, what we change on client sites, and a checklist you can run in an afternoon

Are AI Overviews and AI Mode available in the UAE and in Arabic?

Yes to both, according to Google's own announcements. On 20 May 2025 Google brought AI Overviews to the Middle East and North Africa for the first time, with support for new languages including Arabic, on mobile and desktop. Google describes it as broadly available to all users in the MENA region and globally in Arabic

AI Mode followed in English first for the region. On 8 October 2025 Google started rolling out AI Mode in 38 new languages, including Modern Standard Arabic. Google's posts speak of the region and the language, and they don't list the UAE or Gulf dialects by name. Rollouts also change over time, so check what you see from a UAE IP before you plan around it

The two features differ in shape. AI Overviews is a summary above the normal results. AI Mode is a separate conversational tab for longer, multi-part questions. Both show links to sources, and both are covered by the same Google documentation

What does Google say you need to appear?

Google's AI features and your website page sets one condition. A page must be "indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet" to be a supporting link, and "there are no additional technical requirements." It adds that you don't need new machine-readable files, AI text files or markup, and that no special schema.org structured data is required. It also says indexing and serving aren't guaranteed

That settles a lot of vendor claims. If someone sells you an "AI Overview file" or a special tag, ask for the Google page that supports it. We cover the same point in SEO vs AEO vs GEO and in llms.txt explained

The practical order is therefore fixed. First the page must be crawlable and indexed. Then it must be eligible for a snippet. Only then does content quality decide whether it's picked

What improves your chances once you're eligible?

Google publishes eligibility rules, not a ranking recipe for AI Overviews. The rest below is what we do on client sites, and we label it as our own practice

  1. Answer first. Put a 40 to 60 word answer directly under each question-shaped heading, written so it makes sense if lifted out alone. A passage that needs the paragraph before it to make sense is harder for any system to reuse
  2. Cover the sub-questions. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode may use "query fan-out", issuing multiple related searches across subtopics and data sources. One page that answers the main question and its likely follow-ups gives more of those searches something to match
  3. Use structured data for clarity. It isn't required, and Google says it must match the visible text. Used well, it tells the engine who you are and what each page is. Our structured data guide shows the blocks we use
  4. Keep Google Business Profile current. Google's tips name Business Profile and Merchant Center information. For a clinic, restaurant or showroom in Dubai, local queries lean on that data, so hours, categories, services and phone number should match your site. Our guide to ranking on Google Maps in Dubai covers the profile setup
  5. Keep pages current. Fix outdated prices, dates and license details when they change. Stale facts are the easiest reason for an answer to skip you
  6. Write for both languages. If your buyers search in Arabic, publish a real Arabic page, not a machine-translated copy. Our bilingual app guide covers the build side
When a business tells us Google ignores it, we check indexing and snippet settings before we touch the copy. A service page blocked from indexing, or carrying a nosnippet left over from a template, is a fix that takes minutes and changes everything after it.

Which controls limit what Google shows?

You have four controls, all documented by Google. Use nosnippet, data-nosnippet and max-snippet to limit what Search shows from a page, or noindex to keep it out entirely. Google's AI features page lists these as the way to limit use in AI Overviews and AI Mode

Crawl access is managed through robots.txt, with Googlebot as the control for Search. Google-Extended is a separate control that limits training and grounding in some other Google systems, as the same page explains

The trade-off is plain. A tight max-snippet or nosnippet protects text, and it also lowers your chance of being shown as a source. For most service businesses we leave snippets open on marketing pages and restrict only paid or private content. If a preview control isn't taking effect, check it with URL Inspection and request a recrawl. Google notes recrawling can take days to months

How do you see AI Overview traffic in Search Console?

Clicks and impressions from AI features are counted in the Performance report under the Web search type, mixed with ordinary results. Google states that sites appearing in AI features are included in overall search traffic in Search Console. There is no separate AI Overviews filter in that documentation

So Search Console tells you whether traffic and impressions for a query moved, not whether an AI Overview caused it. To see whether you're named, run a fixed list of buyer questions each month and log what shows up. That's the approach in how to check if ChatGPT recommends your business, and the same method works for Google

What is the checklist, signal by signal?

Run this table on your ten most important pages. Each row maps a signal to an action and a way to verify it

SignalWhat to doHow to check
IndexedRemove accidental noindex, fix canonicals, allow Googlebot in robots.txt and on your CDNURL Inspection in Search Console shows "URL is on Google"
Snippet-eligibleRemove nosnippet and a too-low max-snippet from pages you want quotedView source for the meta robots tag and data-nosnippet attributes
Answer-first passageOpen each H2 with a 40 to 60 word answer that stands aloneRead the first paragraph under each heading with the rest hidden
Fan-out coverageList 5 to 8 follow-up questions per topic and answer each under its own headingCompare your headings with People Also Ask and "related searches"
Structured dataAdd Organization, Article and FAQ markup that matches the visible textRich Results Test and Search Console enhancement reports
Business ProfileAlign name, address, hours, categories and services with your siteCompare the profile with your contact page, line by line
FreshnessUpdate prices, dates and license details when they changeReview dates on the ten pages every quarter
Arabic versionPublish a native Arabic page for Arabic queries and link the two versionsSearch the Arabic query from a UAE connection and see which version ranks
MeasurementTrack a fixed list of 10 buyer questions monthlyA dated log of whether your domain appears as a source

If every row passes and you still aren't cited, the cause is usually content that doesn't add anything the top sources lack. Add original numbers, a real example or a primary-source citation. For the wider picture beyond Google, see how AI search engines decide which brands to cite. Our Dubai property platform case shows the same method on a new domain. Nobody can promise a place in an AI Overview, because Google decides per query

The takeaway

Google needs only an indexed, snippet-eligible page to consider you for AI Overviews and AI Mode. Past that, answer first, cover the follow-up questions, keep structured data and your Business Profile accurate, and measure with a fixed question list. Questions people ask

Do I need special schema to appear in Google AI Overviews?

No. Google's documentation says there is no special schema.org structured data to add and no new machine-readable files or AI text files to create. The page only needs to be indexed and eligible to show in Search with a snippet. Structured data still helps clarity if it matches the visible text

Are Google AI Overviews available in Arabic in the UAE?

Yes. Google brought AI Overviews to the Middle East and North Africa in May 2025 and added Arabic, on mobile and desktop. AI Mode followed in Modern Standard Arabic in October 2025. Google names the region and the language, not the UAE specifically, so test from a UAE connection

Can I block my content from AI Overviews?

Yes. Google lists nosnippet, data-nosnippet and max-snippet as preview controls, and noindex to keep a page out of Search entirely. Crawl access follows robots.txt for Googlebot. Tighter controls also reduce your chance of being shown as a source, so apply them only to content you want protected

Where do AI Overview clicks show up in Search Console?

They are counted in the Performance report under the Web search type, together with ordinary results. Google states that sites in AI features are included in overall search traffic. There is no separate AI Overviews filter in its documentation, so track a fixed list of questions to see whether you are named

What is query fan-out in Google AI Mode?

Query fan-out is a technique where Google issues multiple related searches across subtopics and data sources to build one AI answer. It lets Google show a wider set of links than a single search would. A page that answers the main question and its follow-ups gives more of those searches a match

Does Google Business Profile affect AI Overviews for local queries?

Google's guidance on AI features advises keeping Business Profile and Merchant Center information current. Google does not publish a ranking weight for it. For local searches in Dubai, matching your hours, categories, services and phone number to your site removes conflicts a system would otherwise have to resolve
