UAE visa platform: passport scan to visa, without intermediaries

Citizens of Kyrgyzstan applying for a UAE visa went through a chain of intermediaries, each adding a margin. PHII Labs built a platform where the client scans a passport, pays in local currency, and receives the visa — all in one place

Context

A typical application went travel agency → tour operator → receiving party in the UAE → visa provider. Every link added its own markup on top of the government fee. The process took several days, the client could not see the status, and passport data was passed along the chain through messengers and email. Manual form errors led to rejections and resubmissions

Problem

  1. Too many intermediaries. The final price was a stack of markups
  2. No visibility. "Call and ask" was the only way to learn the status
  3. Manual data entry. Typing passport details by hand caused errors and rejections
  4. Sensitive data everywhere. Passport scans travelled through chats with no retention policy

What was built

  • Passport scanning. The client points the phone camera at the passport; name, number, date of birth and nationality are read automatically. No manual forms
  • Payment in local currency. Local payment methods inside the app, with the full price shown upfront: government fee plus service fee, no hidden commissions
  • Live status. After payment the client sees a timeline — payment received → review → submitted to the UAE → visa ready — with notifications in Telegram and by email
  • Visa as a PDF. When ready, the visa downloads from the app, with a copy in Telegram and email
  • Data protection. Passport scans are deleted automatically 180 days after the visa is issued. Data is encrypted and only authorized staff have access

Results

  • Intermediaries: a chain → direct to the operator
  • Processing time: several days → from a few hours to 2 days
  • Manual form filling: removed entirely
  • Status: from "call and ask" to real-time tracking
  • A lower price for the client, because the stacked markups are gone

Takeaway

The biggest win was not the AI — it was removing people from a chain that only added cost and delay. Document recognition made the direct route possible: once the passport reads itself, there is nothing left for an intermediary to do
